Born into a musical family in Amsterdam, Jeroen Reuling began studying the cello with Jean Decroos. He continued his training with André Navarra at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany, where he quickly became his assistant. In 1981, he passed the Konzertexamen and completed his studies with Pierre Fournier in Geneva.
Following his Concertgebouw debut with the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Jeroen Reuling performed regularly with other Dutch orchestras, under conductors such as Vernon Handley, Yehudi Menuhin, and Roberto Benzi. He made numerous recordings for radio and television, and in 1983 received the Audience Award at the Sonesta Koepelzaal in Amsterdam. He has performed throughout Europe and Asia, where he made his Hong Kong debut in 1985 with Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.
From 1983 to 2004, Jeroen Reuling was principal cellist of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra. He now divides his passion for the cello between teaching and chamber music. He is a professor of cello at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and since October 2011, also a professor at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where he shares a class with Gary Hoffman.
He has given masterclasses worldwide and leads annual sessions at the Schiermonnikoog Festival (Netherlands), of which he is founder and artistic director. Jeroen Reuling is regularly invited to participate in various chamber music projects. He has recorded for the Naxos, Ottavio, and Cobra labels. He plays an Italian cello attributed to Antonio Gagliano, Naples.
