Born in Geneva and holding both Swiss and Italian citizenship, Fabrizio Chiovetta studied with Dominique Weber, John Perry and Paul Badura-Skoda, of whom he became a close disciple. He has performed throughout Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East, notably at the Sommets Musicaux and Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Lisztomanias, Victoria Hall, Festival Berlioz, Schloss Elmau, the Tonhalle, Princeton Piano Festival, the NCPA in Mumbai, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
He has performed under the direction of conductors including Gábor Takács-Nagy, Arie van Beek, Mikael Toms, Diego Matheuz and Jean-Pascal Hamelin. A sought-after chamber musician, he has performed with the Belcea Quartet, Patrick Messina, Henri Demarquette, Benjamin Appl, Gautier Capuçon, Lise Berthaud, Pierre Fouchenneret, Camille Thomas, Alexandra Conunova, Sarah Nemtanu, Silvia Careddu, Sophie Karthäuser, Marc Coppey, Samuel Hasselhorn and Werner Güra.
He gave the world premiere of Tristan Murail’s solo piano work Le Rossignol en amour and made the first recording of chamber works by Arvo Pärt, Jaan Rääts and André Previn. Also active as an improviser, he has collaborated with artists from a variety of backgrounds, including Vincent Ségal, Grégoire Maret and Marthe Keller.
His recordings for Palexa, Claves Records and Aparté, devoted to works by Schumann, Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, have received international critical acclaim and distinctions including Gramophone Editor’s Choice, CHOC de CLASSICA, Diapason, FonoForum, Classics Today and the American Music Guide.
Fabrizio Chiovetta is Professor of Piano at the Haute école de musique de Genève-Neuchâtel, where he has taught since 2009. He regularly gives masterclasses throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas and is invited to serve on the juries of international competitions.
