Johan Schmidt is invited as a soloist to the most renowned venues worldwide, such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Théâtre du Châtelet and Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow, the Herod Atticus Theatre in Athens, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Gasteig in Munich, the Schaubühnenhaus in Berlin, the Tel Aviv Museum, the Suntory and Casals Halls in Tokyo, the Symphony Hall in Osaka, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the Grand Theatre in Qingdao, the Dalian Theatre…

As a sought-after artist, he regularly performs with major Belgian orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra. Internationally, he plays alongside the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the RTL Orchestra, and the National Orchestra of France (Lille), Qingdao Orchestra (China), under the direction of conductors P. Bartholomée, J. Semkov, K. Takaseki, T. Bloomfield, K.A. Richenbacker, F. Schipway, P. Daniel, G. Neuhold, and Jean-Claude Casadesus.

Frequently on tour in China and Japan, he is preparing an international tour with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.

His interest in chamber music leads him to collaborate with musicians such as Augustin Dumay, Alexei Moshkov, Eyal Shiloach, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Laurent Breuninger, Elsa Grether, the Malher Piano Quartet, and the American String Quartet.

His performances are broadcast by numerous media outlets such as VRT, RTBF, TV5, PBS NationWide (U.S.A), ZDF (Germany), NHK (Japan)…

Having participated in the most prestigious international competitions, he notably achieved:

– Winner of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, for which he also received the RTBF Public Prize (Brussels, Belgium)
– Third prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow, Russia)
– First prize at the Maria Callas International Competition (Athens, Greece)
– First prize at the Japan International Competition (Tokyo, Japan)
– Winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (Fort Worth, USA)
– Awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Prize for a young European by the Rotary Club

Johan Schmidt has gained considerable experience, allowing him to be one of the most sought-after educators in the music sphere today. He has been a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels since 2011, and he is also a professor at Qingdao University in China and Senzoku Gakuen University in Japan.

He participates in various masterclasses around the world, such as the International Summer Academy in Nice, the Grand Nancy International Summer Academy, the Winter Academy in Paris, the Forum Musikae in Madrid, the Talent Music Summer Courses & Festival in Brescia, Piano Forum in Sendai, Nagoya, and Tokyo in Japan, and in Qingdao and Shanghai in China.

Johan Schmidt is often a jury member at multiple international music competitions, including the Manhattan International Music Competition, the André Dumortier International Competition in Paris, and the Svetislav Stancic International Piano Competition in Zagreb.
