Winner of 2003 Astral Artistic Services National Audition, Ms. Min Ji Kim began the cello at the young age of 6 at the age of 17, she entered the Korean National University of Arts as a young prodigy.
Upon her completion of the undergraduate degree, Ms.Kim went on to her next step in her music studies by attending New England Conservatory in Boston. There, under full scholarship, she earned her Artist Diploma and Graduate Diploma. In2005, Ms.Kim received Professional Performance degree from Toulouse Conservatoirein Paris with the aid from the Frank Huntington Beebe Fellowship.
Ms. Kim has received first prize in many of Korean national competitions, such as Dong-Ah Newspaper, Joong-Ang Newspaper, Han-Kook Newspaper, and Cho-sun Newspaper Music Competitions, grand prix at the Nan-Pa Music competition, a grand prix at the Seoul Youth Music Competition by KBS, and also a first prize at the Korean International Music Foundation Competition in Los Angeles, U.S.A.
Ms. Kim was the only Korean to be invited to perform and to receive scholarship from the Emanuel Feuermann international cello competition inBerlin, Germany, took 2nd place at the Premio Arturo Bonucci International cello competition in Italy, 3rd place at the Adaminter national cello competition in New Zealand, and grand prix at the Hudson Valley String Competition in New York, New England conservatory String Competition, and HAMS International cello competition.
She also eceived first prize and the special award for commissioned work for Irving MKlein international string competition in San Francisco, and a semi-final is tat the Rostropovich cello competition in France, Pablo Casals cello competition in Germany, Paulo cello competition in Finland, and Naumberg competition in NewYork. Ms.Kim had performed with many orchestras around the world including various symphony orchestras from Korea such as KBS Symphony, Suwon Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Incheon Philharmonic, and Seoul Academy symphony.
She has also collaborated with the Chicago Dame Myra Hess Concert Series, Haddonfield Symphony, Hudson Valley Symphony, Marin Symphony, Santa Cruz Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, Peninsula Symphony and New England Conservatory Symphony orchestra. She was also invited to perform the Piatigorsky Cello Seminarin California and also for the Ralston Concert series in Notre Dame, California. She also left are markable impression on the listener sofWMFT Chicago Radio station after performing alive solo recital. Her solo recital s include her performance at the Philadelphia Kimmer Centre, Trinity Center, and Jordan Hall and Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
Ms.Kim is also active in Chamber music festivals, taking part in International Chamber Music Festival in San Miguel Allende, Mexico, Ravinia Music Festival in Chicago, Banff Music Festival and Orford Music Festival in Canada. She was also invited to take part in Kronberg Cello Master class and Audition in Germany and a cello master class in France.
Ms. Kim used Jean Baptiste Vuillaume cello on loan from the instrument bank of Ravinia Festival Stean’s institute and she was assistant principal of Orchestra Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Spain under Lorin Mazzel. Currently, she is a member of Kumho Asiana Soloist and Opus Ensemble and a senior member of the Celista Cello Ensemble. Also, she is also the music director of the Deoksugung Palace Concert and the music director of the Yeosu Eco International Music Festival. She is a professor at Seoul National University in Korea.
